Roof
Doesn't Lock in Place (Free Falls)
Roof
Doesn’t Lock in Place
This
is generally caused by continuing to turn the crank when the roof has already
reached the bottom. SOLUTION: Crank
the roof all the way to the top and when the crank handle comes to the top, stop
and apply 20% – 30% more pressure to see if the jam nut will release and lock.
If not, lower the roof and spray with WD-40 in the center of the drive hub and
let it sit for 10 minutes and try again. See pictures below.
DO NOT let go of the crank handle or it will spin around and around,
lowering the roof.

If you have broken a cable, this does not need to ruin your trip or cut it short. You can cut a 2x4 and have someone push up on the broken side with the 2x4 while you turn the crank handle. Then once the roof is all the way to the top, put the 2x4 in place on the body panel right beside the lift arm. Then firmly secure the 2x4 to the lift arm with duct tape, wire, or rope.
